2019 Sutho Junior Academy program the following Wednesday, 8 May.
Similar to 2018 year, we’ve split the Academy sessions into three blocks. The initial 4 week block of Academy sessions will be offered to U15 players. However numbers are limited, so please register asap to secure a place.
In a boost to the Junior Academy Program this year, it will be run by Kieran Govers – recently retired from the Australian Kookaburras team and current Sutherland first grade player. Kieran has established his own coaching business called KaoS – Kieran’s Academy of Sport.
The Junior Academy program is open to players of all skill levels, although to ensure Kieran is able to provide a personal focus on all participants, numbers are more limited than last season.
Further information regarding the 2019 Junior Academy Program is below, however if you have any specific questions or would like to register (on a first in, first served basis), please send an email to email@example.com.
What is the academy?
The Junior Academy Program has been running for 4 years and this year will be a 4 week block of one night per week and there is a cost involved. The aim is to provide more specialised, tailored training focusing on improving the particular skill set of the player – regardless of current skill level. Each session will be limited to 10-12 participants. The first block of Academy will be for the under 15 age group. Subsequent blocks will be run for other age groups through term 2 and term 3.
The first 4 week block will be Wednesday nights on 8 May, 15 May, 22 May and 29 May. There will be a 1 hour session on the turf from 6-7pm on those nights.
Who is coaching?
Kieran Govers (ex-Kookaburra) will run each session and will be assisted by fellow experienced 1st grade players. John “JC” Cowan will also continue to be involved in the Junior Academy Program this year.
This is an opportunity for players that are interested in additional focused training to further develop their skills. The Academy training is in addition to the normal weekly team training that the players currently attend – it is not instead of that training. It is also a great opportunity for the junior players to meet and learn from highly skilled players in our senior teams.
The cost is $20 per participant for each session, so a total cost of $80 for the 4 week block. This is to be paid upfront and is not refundable if a player is unable to attend any particular session. Kieran will be using the TryBooking system for payments (a link to the TryBooking system will be provided).
Sutherland’s home field at North Sylvania – utilising the newly installed turf pitch.
What do I do if my child is interested?
There is no obligation for your child to participate in the Academy Program – your child will continue to receive excellent coaching from their current coaches at their current weekly team coaching sessions. The Academy is an additional opportunity for players keen on gaining extra specialised coaching.
